Our Story
With an ambition towards rethinking ‘wellnessʼ in Sri Lanka, NIJA Luxury Wellness was founded by
Mrs. Rookmanie Fernando, Chairman and an elite veteran of the wellness industry with over 35 years of expertise, who pioneered the concept of wellness by introducing Ayurveda and Spa operations at Jetwing Hotels, Sri
Lanka. By partnering with Mr. Lilith James, Executive Director of NIJA, owner of Hotel Emporium, Inc. and an
expert in the fields of Hospitality and Retail with over 45 years of experience in managing luxury hotels in Germany
and the USA as well in retailing a range of hotel amenities, NIJA Luxury Wellness envisions new heights to take
the company forward, by establishing of an international chain of Wellness Pavilions.
In curating premium wellness treatments, NIJA family is also joined by Dr. L.P.A. Karunathilake, a practitioner of
Ayurveda Medicine with over 30 years of experience, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Colombo and a Consultant Surgeon at the Gampaha Wickramarchchi Ayurveda Hospital, University of Kelaniya. His expertise and
consultations were key in launching NIJAʼs own chain of signature Ayurvedic products as well as conceptualising
ayurvedic treatments and procedures. In addition, Dr. Tyrell Fernandez who currently serves as the Chairman of
the Institution of Complementary and Alternative Medicine and a practitioner of Nutritive, Functional and Integrative Medicine has been instrumental in developing NIJAʼs nutritive care solutions that play a predominant part in
the companyʼs holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
